Official sources disagree or leave gaps on these. Confirm before you rely on them.
- The fines have been reported in different ways: up to ₹3,000 when the microchip rule was announced in September 2025 5; ₹5,000 for no licence or no microchip, expected after the November 2025 deadline 6; and ₹5,000 for dogs without a microchip from 15 December 2025, after the deadline was extended 9. We found no GCC notice listing the fines. Ask your zonal veterinary officer which applies.
- We could not find GCC's own written steps, licence period or fine schedule. The steps and validity above follow a November 2025 news guide 4; GCC's pages confirm the ₹50 fee and the free rabies vaccination 1.
- GCC's page speaks of "pet animals" in general 1. We could not confirm whether cats also need a microchip.
