Documents to carry
- Rabies vaccination certificate, signed and stamped by a registered vet. Bring the original and a photocopy 1.
- Fit-to-fly certificate from a registered vet, saying the pet was examined and is fit to fly given its age, health and breed. Original and photocopy 1.
- The signed indemnity form. Download it from the Pets on Akasa page, or ask for one at check-in 1.
- For a dog in the cabin: show its muzzle and leash at the check-in counter. Without them, the dog won't be allowed to fly 1.
How to book
- Book your own ticket and call the Akasa Air Care Centre on +91 9606 11 21 31 to add your pet, ideally at the same time. Pets in the cabin or hold can't be booked on the website, at the airport or through a travel agent 1.
- Book at least 24 hours before departure. Places go first come, first served: two pets in the cabin and one in the hold per flight 1.
- Choose a non-stop flight. Pets are not carried on connecting or through flights 1.
- Reach the airport at least 2 hours before departure. You get priority check-in and boarding 1.
Rules on board
- Dogs in the cabin must be muzzled. The pet stays in its closed, zipped container at the airport and for the whole flight, stowed under the seat in front of you 1.
- You get a window seat. Exit-row and premium seats are not given to passengers with pets, and the pet can't have its own seat 1.
- Each passenger can take one pet in the cabin and one in the hold 1.
- Put an absorbent mat under the pet and a label on the container showing the type of pet. No food inside the container 1.
- At security, you hold your leashed pet and walk through the scanner while the container is X-rayed 1.
Who can't fly
- Pets under 3 months old, or more than 4 weeks pregnant 1.
- Snub-nosed (brachycephalic) dogs can't go in the hold. Akasa's list names breeds such as Pug, Shih Tzu, Lhasa Apso, French Bulldog, Boxer and Pekingese, and Persian and Exotic Shorthair cats. For the cabin, Akasa asks you to take vet advice 12.
- If you are travelling with an infant, your pet can't be in the cabin, though it may go in the hold 1.
- Unaccompanied minors can't travel with pets, and Akasa advises against it for passengers who need wheelchair help 1.
- Until further notice, pets over 32 kg are not taken in the hold on flights from Pune and Agartala 1.
- Emotional support animals, and sedated or unwell pets, are not accepted 1.

Official sources disagree or leave gaps on these. Confirm before you rely on them.
- Certificate timing: the page summary says the vaccination and health certificate must be 'obtained within 72 hours of travel' and is then valid for 15 days 1; the FAQ only says the fit-to-fly certificate is valid for 15 days from issue 1. A certificate dated within 72 hours of your flight meets both. Confirm with the Akasa Air Care Centre.
- Booking for the hold: one FAQ answer says pets are booked only through the Care Centre; another says the airport counter adds the pet to your PNR 1. Call the Care Centre first.
- The fee for pets over 32 kg sent as cargo is not published 1.
