Vets open on Diwali night: 24-hour pet emergency care in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai

If your pet is burnt by a cracker, eats a cracker or sweets with chocolate or raisins, struggles to breathe, collapses or is hit by a vehicle, take it to a vet that is open now, and call on the way ⁶¹⁵⁶⁵⁷. The hospitals below say on their own website, or on a government or university page, that they are open round the clock. Most of these pages don't mention festival nights, so call before you leave.

Go now if: Cracker burn; ate a cracker, chocolate or raisin sweets; trouble breathing; collapse; hit by a vehicle⁵⁹⁶⁰⁶¹⁵⁶⁵⁷
Delhi, government: Veterinary Hospital, Tis Hazari, open 24x7: 011-23967555¹
Mumbai, charitable: Bombay SPCA hospital, Parel, emergencies 24 hours: +91 8591659398⁹
Chennai, vet college: Madras Veterinary College, emergencies round the clock: 044-25381366²⁵
Before you leave: Call the hospital so the team can get ready for you⁵⁶

Go to a vet now if

Your pet has a burn from a cracker, even one that looks small. Fur can hide how bad a burn is ⁵⁶⁵⁷.
Your pet ate a cracker, or sweets with chocolate or raisins such as kheer or mithai, or anything else that may be toxic ⁵⁹⁶⁰⁵⁷.
Your pet is struggling to breathe ⁵⁶⁵⁷.
Your pet collapses or passes out ⁵⁷.
Your dog ran off in panic or was hit by a vehicle. Once it is back with you, get it checked even if it seems fine: some injuries take a day or two to show ⁸⁵⁷⁵⁸.

On the way

Call the hospital before you set off, so the team can get ready for you, and be ready to say what happened ⁵⁶. If your pet ate something, say what it was and roughly when.

How this list works

A hospital is listed when its own website, or a government or university page, says that branch is open 24 hours. Clinics marked Call first say on their sites that they handle emergencies 24x7, but keep shorter regular hours, have a vet on call, or don't give hours. Phone numbers are copied from those pages. Thapki has no tie-up with any clinic here.

Keep your pet safe on Diwali night

Walk your dog early, in daylight, before the crackers start ⁶²⁶³.
Keep your pet indoors in a quiet room for the evening, with water ⁸⁶².
Close windows and curtains to muffle the bangs and flashes ⁶²⁶³.
Keep a collar with an ID tag on, even indoors. A scared pet can bolt out of a door left open for a moment ⁶³.
Don't take your pet out while crackers are going off, and never take it to watch them ⁶²⁶³.
Keep crackers, and the litter they leave, out of reach. Some pets eat them ⁵⁹.
Keep sweets, chocolate and raisin dishes such as kheer and halwa where your pet can't reach them ⁶⁰⁶¹.
If you see anyone tying crackers to an animal, report it to the police or an animal welfare group. AWBI says it is punishable under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 ⁸.

If your pet ate chocolate, raisins or a cracker

Call your vet now, even if your pet seems fine. Signs can take hours or days to show ⁶¹.
Chocolate: Theobromine causes vomiting, a racing heart, tremors and seizures. Dark chocolate and cocoa powder are the worst ⁶⁰⁶¹.
Grapes and raisins (kishmish): Can cause sudden kidney failure in dogs, even in small amounts. Hidden in kheer, halwa, panjiri and cakes ⁶¹.
Crackers: they contain chemicals and heavy metals ⁵⁹.

None of these pages promises a full team on Diwali night itself. Tis Hazari says it is open on all days ¹, Madras Veterinary College gives its holiday hours ³ and Crown Vet Aundh says it opens on public holidays ³². Call before you leave.
Karnataka's animal husbandry department lists a 24*7 treatment facility at its Super Speciality Veterinary Hospital in Bengaluru ⁶, but gives no address, phone or night staffing for it online, so we haven't listed it.
Haryana's citizen charter says government vet hospitals attend emergency cases 24x7 free of cost, but also that they close on Sundays and gazetted holidays, and it names no unit with a vet on duty at night ⁷. In Gurugram and Faridabad, call the nearest unit before you go.
Crown Vet's Aundh page and its contact page give different street addresses in Anand Park, Aundh ³²³³. Ask for directions when you call.
Vetic's branch pages repeat some text from other branches. We relied on the hours shown for each branch; call to confirm.
We found no government vet hospital in Hyderabad, and no clinic in Thane, Navi Mumbai or Faridabad, whose official page says it is open all night.
